“I have loved being your mentor and you being my manatee.”

BEAUTIFUL!

I love TV.
Not in the way that most think I do, but more in the way that I study and learn from the everyday shows that normals watch. I have always had insomnia, so as a kid when everyone in the house went to bed, I’d sneak downstairs and turn on Nick at Nite and swoon over I Love Lucy, Laverne and Shirley, Happy Days, The Jeffersons, All in the Family, The Brady Bunch, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Taxi, Newhart, Threes Company…all the greats and so many more. So from watching those shows at such a young age, I had a pretty good sense of what was funny, provocative, taboo, and most importantly, entertaining to most people.
Anyway, as I was saying, my love for television, I think, outweighs most others love because of my love for it as a whole; I understand and appreciate all aspects of what goes into making a television program.
I love stories, the dialog, the goal audience, the timing, the plotting, the layout, the mystery, the writing and, of course, my passion, the acting. I love how some shows can be directed at one audience and then accidentally favored by another (30 Rock-BEST SHOW EVER). I love that spinoffs are a thing. I love that most of the older shows are so original and full of family-friendly humor and had actual plots and characters you could care about instead of cheesy, tasteless money-grabbing “plots” the overrated reality genre has nowadays (I swear if they make ONE MORE reality show about a has-been forgotten rich family and their “unscripted” drama I will KILL someone!!)
The thing I love most about TV is its ability to take you to a whole other place in 30-45min without ever leaving your seat. Going on secret spy missions with Sydney Bristow on Alias, Singing out your emotions with Rachel Barry on Glee, saving lives in Seattle Grace Hospital with Meredith Gray on Gray’s Anatomy (I swear I can diagnose a subdural hematoma now on anyone), having super abilities with Peter Petrelli on Heroes, dealing with the pressures of high school all over again with…every sitcom on the planet. Just the way that it takes you someplace else is amazing to me. Its the story that makes or breaks a show.
I analyze the stories I see. How the characters grow throughout the seasons, watching relationships change and fluctuate, understanding the dialog, reading between the lines, finding out what the writers are really trying to say. Its all a complex compiling of creativity that stretches beyond the normal imagination. Stories can put your feelings into words and those words can be made into shows who have characters that you can relate to or relate to others. Its how we keep our history alive. Humans have been telling stories since the beginning of time…(the bible) and now we can put faces and expressions to those stories we know and love so much.
Have you ever noticed that there are a few themes in stories that are repeated over and over again? For instance, the story of rags to riches (Cinderella, Pretty Woman, Pursuit of Happyness), the story of survival (Cast Away, I Am Legend, The Road), the story of overcoming social obstacles (High School Musical (not my best reference), Superbad, Easy A), the story of family importance (any Christmas movie, Madea’s Family Reunion, Little Miss Sunshine), the story of one mans or one groups struggle against evil (David and Goliath, Eagle Eye, any super hero movie). Pretty cool, huh? And while most people dont see these things when staring at the screen, I am compelled to take notice. I like to take a step back and figure out how this moment in this story was created or why they decided to use that line of dialog instead of another or how they got that interesting camera angle.
And then I just like to watch shows cause they are fun to watch.
And now thanks to things like Netflix, Hulu and, yes, even the Public Library I have FULL ACCESS to shows I love WITHOUT commercials!! WOO HOO!!
Anyway, so now you can clearly see why my, as my husband calls it, “obsession” is so important to me. Just thought Id share that with you :)
Thanks for reading!
I LOVE THIS!!!
so im thinking about keeping a journal of all my memories…ever. like from birth.
i wonder how long it would take me. i might just do it on another tumblr account. we’ll see…………………………..
Today was my sister in laws birthday party. We went to varsity grill in tacoma. They had happy hour all day and the food was actually pretty good. Today was also day 18 for my love dare and it was talking about how humans cant actually achieve agape love. Its impossible. But only with the help from God can it be even slightly possible. I find that interesting.
Today I am supposed to ask God to come into my heart. So I’m asking now…
Please God, come into my heart. Come into my life. Come into my home, my marriage, my everything. If there was ever a time I needed you, it’s now. I need a miracle. A angel to come down and save us.
Please lord,
Amen
